Supporting Veterans Beyond the Uniform

Veggies for Veterans is a Gregory’s Fresh Market program that enriches the lives of Arizona veterans by bringing fresh fruits and vegetables to veteran care and living facilities. The mission of the program is to enrich lives by restoring meaningful food access and eliminating health disparities in veteran communities. Our purpose is to ensure no veteran, or their family, goes to bed hungry.

Supporting Veterans Through Food & Community

Veggies for Veterans started over six years ago at Victory Place, a veteran transitional housing facility in Phoenix. The program has expanded to the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center and the VA Outpatient Clinic and has served over 16,000 veterans. Veggies for Veterans is held five times a year and brings together community partners to provide veterans with healthy food choices.

Fighting Hunger & Supporting Health Together

At every Veggies for Veterans event, volunteers pack more than 600 bags of free produce to distribute to veterans in VA facilities and via drive-thru. The program offers veterans nutrient-dense food options in an effort to fight chronic illnesses, like high blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol. The program also improves mental health by increasing veteran socialization and engagement.
