2012 Senior Awards Luncheon, Cheryl Lang Advocacy Award Recipient

Cheryl Lang, Property Manager at Phoenix Manor

4 years Activity Director, 8 years Leasing Manager/Activity Director,

4 years Property Manager (16 years)
Cheryl LangPhoenix Manor is an independent living apartment complex for 55 years or better.  We have 450 units on 25 acres.  Member of Crime Free Program, Maryvale Apartment Coalition.

Personal info:  Single mother of 27 year old daughter who teaches English in the Tolleson High School District and 10 year foster daughter who both have been a member of the Phoenix Manor family.  My oldest daughter started coming to activities at 10 years old and have enjoyed the seniors caring attitude towards her and treated her as if she was one their own grandchildren.  And now my youngest has been coming to Phoenix Manor since 2 mos. old where the “grandmas” would take turns holding her and now watch as she becomes a young girl at the same place where my oldest started visiting here.

I enjoy working with the senior population because I have found over the years that many of our residents have such a diverse background, who remember a simpler time with fewer luxuries than we have now.  Listening to the stories about their lives, families, work and more is such an opportunity for me to gain a perspective about what is important in life.  They remind me what customer service is really all about and how to remain and have that human interaction even in our technological age we live in now.  I look forward to many years as the manager at Phoenix Manor and hope I do not ever stop learning.

“I have been at Sunnyslope Manor for a little over one year where I serve 122 residents. I enjoy working with the Seniors because with all ages from 62 to 95, at least six different languages and several different faiths, everyday they show me a  new perspective on life.”

2012 Senior Awards Luncheon, Ted Palmisano Community Award Recipient

Ted PIn 1988, out of the back of his pick up truck, Ted Palmisano brought a vision to life and started the Peddler’s Son Produce Company. Although he was new to the area, he was certainly not new to the industry as he had grown up working day to day for his cousin’s produce company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With Ted’s work ethic, determination, and offering of the basics; great service, quality products and honest and loyal pricing, Peddler’s Son was able to move out of Ted’s pick up truck and into their own facility. Today with his brother Joe, hard work, dedication and the confidence and loyal commitment of the community, Peddler’s Son Produce now proudly serves over 300 restaurants, grocery stores and food related businesses.
