Gregory’s Fresh Market Leadership Team Responds to Coronavirus Concerns

In the midst of the current uncertainty of the coronavirus, one thing IS certain: We care about you.

Our team at Gregory’s Fresh Market is closely monitoring the continuing spread of the COVID -19 virus.

And, in view of the increased levels of risk, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend our operations immediately until further notice.  We will continually reassess the situation to determine how to proceed in the coming weeks.

Committed to serving the seniors in our community, we are following our state and federal recommendations to minimize exposure. We value the health of our community and we have taken proactive and voluntary steps at our warehouse and distribution locations to help reduce contact with and/or spread of COVID-19 and will continue to take these precautionary steps when our operations restart. These include:

  • Providing gloves to all volunteers handling food at our distribution sites
  • Advising volunteers, staff, and visitors to stay home if they display signs of illness, especially fever or cough, or encounter affected individuals
  • Ensuring that our locations are fully stocked with antibacterial soap and cleaning supplies
  • Regularly sanitizing all commonly touched surfaces with 70% isopropyl alcohol after each market
  • Increasing the visibility and importance of hand washing
  • Advising volunteers, staff, and visitors to avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Advising volunteers, staff, and visitors to avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Reducing the possibility of exposure to our clients by providing some or all produce pre-bagged
  • Encouraging social distancing of at least six feet between people at our locations

How can you help?

The current situation is very dynamic and changes are occurring rapidly, but right now our biggest needs are:

Monetary Contributions:  There are certain fixed costs we incur whether or not our operations are up and running. We expect an increasing demand for our services and we want to be able to ramp up fully once our operations start up again. “If you can, please consider donating so we can help those in need.”

Healthy Volunteers: Our operations rely heavily on volunteers! Many of our dedicated volunteers fall in the noted vulnerable populations. Even before we restart our operations, we will need volunteers who can come and help us pack bags of fresh produce. Volunteers must be 16 years or older, show no signs of respiratory illness and follow all recommended guidelines to reduce the contact with and/or spread of COVID -19.

We are here for the community!

Even though we have suspended operations, for now, we are committed to our mission of working with a network of community partners to address the need for fresh fruits and vegetables in our community and to build a healthier community through healthy food, education, and leadership.

Once again, the team at Gregory’s Fresh Market values the well-being of our community and we’re committed to doing our part in preventing the spread of COVID -19 in our neighborhoods.

We have been grateful for your support over the last 10 years and look forward to serving you again soon.

Health is wealth!

Stay well,

STATEMENT ON HUMAN RIGHTS

Diana Gregory Outreach Services (DGOS) stands in support of our communities as they seek to cast aside systemic racism, violence, hatred and official misconduct that has disproportionately affected people of color for generations. We stand in solidarity with those who seek positive change and reform.

A message from the CEO and Chair.  As the niece of civil rights pioneer and leader, Dick Gregory, I have spent my adult life at the forefront of civil rights activism. Like you, our family is appalled by the recent chain of events that saw the deaths of innocent citizens across the country at the hands of those sworn to serve and protect all of its citizens.

These tragedies have taken place in the middle of a global pandemic that threatens the lives of millions by itself. This is even more reason to appreciate the depth of outrage over George Floyd’s horrible death that has galvanized the world to seek justice and reform. As the world watches America, we have the opportunity to promote real change; to achieve a lasting impact that will improve the lives of millions of Americans.

America can reach the next level of human and civil rights for all its people. America can lead the world in police and criminal justice reforms and, in the process, help to obliterate oppression for all nations that strive to achieve it. And DGOS is committed to doing its part.

DGOS has as one of its core values to actively promote diversity and inclusion among our volunteers, employees, suppliers and our targeted end-users and to align with those organizations and institutions that share our values.

This note is an acknowledgement of our difficult history and a vision for the days we have ahead to chart a course that leads to true freedom and justice for all.
